FAQ

New Riders

How do I get started?

In order to get started, you need to sign up for your own online account. Once you have created an account, you need to purchase classes in order to reserve a bike. Please arrive 15 minutes early so you get properly set up with the bike and can familiarize yourself with the studio. Make sure you tell instructors about any concerns or special needs. Need more help getting started? Give us a call anytime! Please note that riders will not be permitted into class if arriving late.

Do I need to check in when I arrive to class?

Yes! By not checking in, you are considered a no show. You can run the risk of losing your spot and being charged a no show fee.

To check in, simply use the iPad kiosk at the front desk or download our free app to geo check-in upon arrival. If there’s a line, you can also have the instructor check you in.

Do I need special shoes?

Yes! For safety reasons and biomechanical efficiency (meaning you work the muscle groups correctly), we require the use of our complimentary cycling shoes. All pedals are SPD compatible.

To have your shoes ready for you upon arrival, choose your size from the Add-on items when booking your class online or in the app. If you forget, just tell the instructor your shoe size when you arrive and they’ll grab you a pair.

What do I need to bring?

Shoes and towels are provided, but you will need to bring socks and a water bottle. The studio does have a water dispenser if you need to fill your bottle. We like being green! You may also purchase water at the studio.

Make sure to wear comfortable exercise clothing, you will be sweating a lot! To prevent injury, please avoid loose clothing to avoid them snagging on the bike pedals.

Are there showers?

Yes! We have two unisex bathrooms, and one of them has an ADA compliant shower complete with towels. Both bathrooms can be used as changing rooms where you would be able to change and freshen up using complimentary toiletries.

Do you offer child care?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer child care.

Cancellation & Late Policies

What if I'm late?

We all have busy schedules, so we do our best to start and end classes on time. Please come at least 5-10 minutes before class to check in and set up your bike. New riders should plan to come 15-20 minutes before class to be properly set up and to get situated with the studio.

If you know in advance you're going to be cutting it close, please give us a call to notify us. DOORS WILL LOCK ONCE CLASS HAS STARTED.

What is your Class Cancellation Policy?

Our standard cancellation window requires a booked class to be cancelled at least 1 hour before the class starts in order to avoid penalty.

Anybody who cancels after the cancellation window (referred to as a Late Cancel") or does not show up for a scheduled class (referred to as a No Show) will be penalized by either losing that class credit OR incurring a $10 fee (Unlimited members only).

If you’ve already missed the cancellation window, but know you can’t make it anymore, please be a good human! Let us know if you can no longer make it so we can give your seat to another customer AND so your instructor isn’t waiting for you. If you don’t want a penalty, please wait to sign up until you know you can make it to class.

What are the Late Cancel / No Show fees?

Monthly Unlimited members will be charged a $10 cancellation / no-show fee.

Riders using Class Packs, 4x/Mo and 8x/Mo Memberships will lose that class if they late cancel or no show.

Can I reschedule a class on the same day that I missed?

If you Late Cancel for a class, but want to reschedule for another class later in the day, you can do so without penalty. Just make sure to notify us that you rescheduled (so we can waive the penalty.)

If you No-Showed for a class, you will receive the normal penalty depending on your type of membership. You can still reschedule for another class later that day, but you will still be penalized for missing the first one.

How do I cancel a class?

If you need to cancel within the appropriate time, log into your account and navigate to "My Classes." There you will be able to see all the classes you've signed up for. Select the class in question and click "Unreserve" to remove yourself from class. You will not be charged if you cancel at least 1 hour before classes.

If you require further assistance, you can call the studio. Please do not email cancellations. Email cancellations will not be honored. Private group classes require that you cancel 24 hours ahead of time.

Classes

How soon can I reserve a class?

Our schedule shows the next 2 weeks of upcoming classes that can be booked. Unlimited members can book up to 3 weeks out.

How do I get on the waitlist?

If a class is full, you have the option of signing up for the waitlist. Once on the waitlist, you will be notified if a bike reservation becomes available. In order to be on waitlist, you must purchase classes. If you are on the waitlist it is assumed that you wish to take the class. REGULAR CANCELLATION RULES APPLY. That means you must remove yourself off the waitlist if you are not planning on taking the class.

If a spot open ups, you will automatically be enrolled up until 1 hour before class starts. If a spot opens up within an hour of class starting, we will manually contact you to see if you're able to make it.

Do classes expire?

10 class packs have a recurring contract that automatically renews 4 months from the date of purchase OR after the last (10th) class is used — whichever event occurs first. You may contact us to turn off the auto-renew option. Please be sure to use all class packs before they expire to avoid losing classes.

Drop-in classes expire 30 days from purchase.

Can I share my classes?

No. There is no class sharing. Most memberships do include some guest passes though.

Does Joywheel offer Private Group classes?

Yes! Joywheel offers private group rides, corporate rides and ride/fitness parties. These are great for corporate events and team building, birthday parties, bachelorette and wedding parties and more. Please contact studio@joywheelcycling.com for more information.

What's the age limit?

Riders must be at least 13 yrs old to take a Joywheel class. All minors (ages 13-17) MUST have a signed parental release/waiver to be allowed to participate in our classes. The waiver can be found here and is also available at the studio. Once parental permission is granted in writing, all minors can attend classes as they please.

Do memberships auto-renew?

Yes, all 3 of our monthly memberships will auto-renew 30 days from purchase. This includes Monthly Unlimited, 8 Rides/Month and 4 Rides/Month memberships. Unused classes DO NOT rollover. They must be used up.

How can I upgrade or downgrade my membership?

You can also fill out that same in the event you need to downgrade to a lower tier.

Yes! If a new member mentions your name at sign-up, you'll receive a $25 account credit to use towards your next month of membership.
